Namada is governed in a decentralized way by stakers of its native token, NAM. Join the community driving Namada upgrades, funding public goods, and helping bring data protection to the multichain.
Every NAM holder can participate in Namada governance by submitting and voting on proposals as a delegator or a validator.
Namada is a proof-of-stake network with a native on-chain governance system. To upgrade the network, NAM holders submit governance proposals that are voted on by the community. Successful proposals are automatically enacted on-chain if they contain associated code.
These validators serve as delegates authorized to vote on the delegator’s behalf. However, delegators can also vote directly on proposals, overriding the corresponding voting power of their chosen validators.
To prevent spam, a deposit of NAM is required, which is returned if the proposal is successful and burned if not. Proposals must follow a particular format.
Delegators can vote during the entire voting period. Validators are restricted to voting within the first ~⅔ of the voting period, to allow time for delegators to change their vote if they disagree.
These proposals require a minimum of ⅔ voting power to pass. Protocol upgrade proposals contain WASM code that is automatically executed to update the network if successful.
Proposals submitted by governance-elected PGF stewards pass by default unless vetoed with a majority of NO votes from at least ⅓ of network voting power. Proposals submitted by non-stewards must receive a majority of YES votes from at least ⅓ network voting power to pass.
Any NAM holder can nominate themselves as an individual or group to serve as steward, outlining their motivations, qualifications, and proposed category of PGF. Candidacies are then voted on by the governance community, with a majority of YES votes from at least ⅓ total voting power required to add or remove a steward.
